Hugh Masekela, the outstanding South African trumpeter, assembled a 7-piece group & recorded this great set live at Washington, D.C.'s Blues Alley. The songs stretch over a period of nearly 5 decades & serve as an informal guided tour of Masekela's life. The songs are honest & bare, & as for the sound – WOW!

Thanks to the Audiophile Audition website I now have several Analogue Production SACD's - all very high quality musically & sonically. This disc is particularly stunning in its impact for several reasons: it was a very well recorded live performance, the presence of the instruments - especially the flugelhorn & trumpet, & the extraordinary integrated lyrics. There are a number of terrific tracks on this SACD, but the last track is memorable both for its diverse musical treatment & condemning dialog. A terrific SACD IMO.
